FIRST STEP PRESCHOOL
The REHAB preschool program provides special education and related services for children ages three to five with moderate to multiple disabilities.
Classrooms are staffed by certified special education teachers and teacher assistants with the support of a LPN. Each classroom offers an enriched early childhood curriculum and intensive therapeutic services. Recreation and integration opportunities are important program components.
The main objective of our education program is to prepare students for regular school programs with their typically developing peers whenever possible.

REHAB SCHOOL
In the early 50's, REHAB Programs began an educational program in a little red school house. Today, our school offers students a warm and accepting atmosphere. Our main site is at 230 North Road in Poughkeepsie. Students range from age 5 to 21 and are challenged with moderate to severe disabilities. We strive to develop creative solutions to mainstream our students with their non-disabled peers. To date we have built a unique partnership with Red Hook School District by establishing a satellite classroom there.
The REHAB School and First Step Preschool work closely with a school district's committee on special education in placing students within our programs. With a high teacher to student ratio, our classrooms are able to provide the maximum educational opportunity in the least restrictive environment. An individualized educational plan is tailored for each student in cooperation with their home school district. This plan sets a student's annual goals, short term objectives and any therapy requirements to be performed by REHAB pediatric therapists.
The educational objective of the REHAB School and First Step Preschool is for our students to learn life skills to assist them in living within their own communities. Activities that promote integration are also key in a student's educational plan.
The teaching staff combines the best of caring and patience with the encouragement children need to stretch beyond their limitations and to discover a new world of learning.
